Do I want a full suss frame? If so, which one.

I find myself doing less proper MTB rides, but when I do go it's to slightly more challenging areas than my local trails, where the hardtail is more than adequate.

So I'm pondering going back to a full susser but...

  • want to swap all the decent, upgraded parts off my hardtail
  • don't want to spend a huge amount because not a lot of use.

Which leads me to the question of what frame. Got to suit the 130mm fork but trail geometry rather than XC. 29er and what passes for normal standards these days, i.e. boost 15mm rear, threaded BB, dropper routing etc.

Good value new including a shock or a second hand suggestions welcome. Cheers.

130/140 it's hard to look past things like a Trek Fuel (20-23) or even.

Under the recommend what you have, Cotic Flare Max it'll get do from XC thru to full-on enduro.

And what's the fork, as if it's something like a Pike pretty cheap & easy to change the travel.

Orange Stage Evo is a safe bet.

They had some new ones under half price last week, but I can't find them on the website now.

Secondhand you're looking about £500-700 depending on condition and shock. Don't pay more.

I can only see Stage 6 Evo frames, not Stage Evo ones?

Confusingly similar, I know.

S6E is a great frame too, but at 140R/150 or 160F possibly a bit longer travel than OP wants.

Yeah, it is. intheborders mentioned getting the travel on the fork increased, which would be doable as it's a Pike Select+ but I just had it serviced by TF Tuned, so that boat has sailed for now.

Stages Evo would fit the bill though,

Flare Max - I always liked them, good call.

Also, scrolling past the Pinkbike Top Fuel, (140mm fork needed I think) spotted a Banshee Phantom. That one is too big for me, but would also be a good option in medium.

Think you may be talking me into it!

I'm happy on a Bird Aether 9 (9c in my case, but not really relevant) and they're pretty capable and cheapish. The other frames I regularly find myself online window shopping are the Banshee Phantom, Cotic Flaremax and Orange Stage Evo, all mentioned above. I think the cheap Stage Evos on offer from Orange direct all sold out quickly though, which probably says how highly they're rated.

Its in the classifieds - for some reason I can't open the ad to get you a link - can you do a search while I keep trying?

If you like the look of the Stage Evo then keep an eye on the Orange sale page as the cheap ones keep popping up in batches. If I hadn't bought my Spur I'd probably not be able to resist. Only keep going back because I'm waiting for an XL Stage 7 to turn up!

Other option could be a GT of some description? Some huge bargains about.

No worries dickie, I'm sure I can find it.

Tracey, I'll have a look at the size charts, but I'm usually bang-medium. Thanks.
