I thought I'd get some flats for the fattie, give it a try like.

DMR V8s seem popular and decent value for money - similar price to trusty M520s.

Now, when I buy M520s I tweak the release tension, fit them, and bish-bosh all done for a couple (or more) of trouble-free years.

V8s? Not quite the same experience. Take off stupid grease-port gub screw, attempt to squirt magic red shit in there, only to find the syringe plunger is stuck. Press harder and *bam* half the red shit spaffs all over my hand. Squirt remaining red shit into one pedal. Instructions say to squirt till it oozes out. So I attempt to re-fill the stupid syringe but the plunger just detaches from the rubber bit when I pull it out.

So many happy minutes dicking about filling it from the thin end and re-squirt. Grease still not oozing. Refill, swear, repeat. Finally reach the oozing stage, refit the grub screw and twiddle. Bearings are now as smooth as they can be. Which is actually just as grumbly and rough as they were when dry. Repeat for the other pedal, and it's also shit.

I like how the box proudly announces the weight in the corner, forgetting to point out that you have to fill the stupid things with half a pound of *your own* grease because they only supply enough red shit for half a ****ing pedal.

I also like the "seals" which needed to be epoxied to the pedal body to provide even a hint of sealing.

They appear to be *piss poor* and have made my *very angry*

Mine are shit too unfortunately.

I don't think they all are though.

No, V8s are all pretty rubbish compared to modern offerings.

they're great in principle.

you can adjust the bearings (but it's a bit fiddly).

but yes, the 'seal' is a joke - it seems to spend it's life floating merrily down the axle, nowhere even near the pedal.

I just fitted mine and used them ?

Don't remember anything about grease ports or syringes 😕

This was a couple of years ago, no issues since.

I bought some about 5 years ago, fitted them and used them for a few years then decided to top up the grease, so syringed a bit in and put the screw back in. still work fine. Been on 4 different bikes now. great pedal for £25.

Then again i also have some Avid Elixirs that have been great for a good few years so maybe i'm just lucky.

I'd rather have shit pedals and win the lottery though.......

That sounds like bliss but buying something, screwing it on and just using it is soooo 2009. They're now shipped completely dry (not a drop of grease) so you can enjoy completing the work the factory couldn't be arsed to do. This also means they don't have to check the bearings are smooth because the buyer is now responsible for their smooth running. The bearings in mine are *shit* and it's clearly my fault.

To be fair I use SPD's on my main bikes, so they don't get hammered.

except they're not really, and the wellgo 'copies' are only £15, and are better in every way.

True dat, forgot to add that i have the Wellgo copies on the other bike and they are miles better!

you can even make your own grease port, it might even take an entire minute.

The wellgo v12 copies are great. Even for a comlete numpty like me changing the bearings is simple. Mine lasted 2 years before they needed doing.
