Tinkering in the shed at the weekend, and found an old GU10 LED bulb that the lens had fallen off. The bulb was one from a test batch I had put together for the lighting in the house.

Pulling it apart I found the electronics which I assumed had to step the voltage down from 240 to something 10-15v ish. Yanked it off and connected the fly leads directly to a smudgepack at 14.8v and waddayaknow it worked! 🙂

Absolutley no idea how much juice the three LEDs draw, or how long the 2.6Ah pack will last or whether Ill burn the LEDs out.
The lens had a honeycomb finish to it so I sanded it clear with some 400grit wet and dry and then polished with some brasso. Stuck it all back together, jammed it in a spare torch bar mount and fitted a [url= http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260821528252 ]DC POWER JACK -FEMALE CONNECTOR CCTV DVR 5.5mm X 2.1mm[/url] 4 for £2.25 from eBay which connects to the smudgepack/troutpack. Very handy if you fancy bodging your own.

Will try and get a beam shot tonight. It casts a lot of light out, but at 36degrees and no hotspot in the middle. Should be fine left on the pub bike until it blows up anyway 🙂

Well it works, didnt get a beam shot Im afraid. Didnt blow up. Big pool of light. Plenty bright out to 15-20m. Probably equivalent to oldskool 35W halogen I reckon. Will try again tonight.
