Any old square taper BB.

Some of the sealed Shimano ones had steel cups (though some are plastic) and most loose bearing ones are steel.

Go to a bike shop, they will probably have some in the scrap metal bin.

Couple of thing I would do first.**

1. Degrease the bottom bracket with something like white spirit and a brush and clean out the threads very carefully. IME its dirt/grit mixed with grease that clogs the BB threads.

2. I noticed that he had debris on the back of his hand after Dremmelling the slots. Clean your hands. You dont want that in the threads that you are trying to clean

3. Clean the BB cups after cutting the slots. Again white spirit and brush.

4. Put some lubrication on the threads of the cups. 3 in 1 or a light oil.

** 4 things actually.

You should be able to get a couple of scrap BB cups from you LBS if you ask nicely/offer biscuits as payment.

Go to eBay, search "bottom bracket cups", buy appropriate item 👍

Old square taper brackets where also metal cases. You could remove the internals and shorten them.
