After braking a spoke at the weekend I also noticed a reasonable size dent in my rim. I've dropped the wheel off to have the spoke replaced and wheel trued. The shop said they would try and bend the rim back best they could but the rim has been pushed down slightly as well as in so it will never be perfect.
I've been thinking of converting to tubeless for a while - will the dent make this tricky/even trickier/impossible!?
In my experience, unless its a really bad ding they can usually be straightened out pretty well, and tend to continue to hold air fine.
Many dented rims here with no problems.
Worth bearing in mind, that the absence of a tube will make you more prone to denting rims.

At best tricky, at worst impossible.
If it's just the side wall of the rim that is dinged then you can usually bend it back and get away with it.
But if it's actually compressed the wall bed as you suggest then I usually find that wont seal - understandable as the tyre bead is being pushed out and up and the ding leaves a gap below the bead.
Would be fine to run with tubes though.
thanks, will give it a go then - at least I have something other than my own ineptitude if it doesn't work ๐
