Im after a new hardcore hardtail frame to build up over the winter and am torn between the above. Ideally would take up to 160mm fork (minimum 140mm) and be comfortable enough for around 5 hour max in the saddle. Currently ride a Genesis core 30 and am having great fun but want something abit more exclusive, more fun and stable going down the trails. I'll be running a double chainring with 9speed cassette at the back end. Anyone on here have advice on the above or any other similar type frame?
Thanks
Nick
i have owned both a pig and a stiffee.
if i were to buy another tough h/tail, i would go for the stiffee.
by far the most fun hardtail i have ever ridden downhill.
Chameleon.

SWEET looking Chumba frame. Great price too. Gonna get on the progresive website now.
Cheers

I have a Bfe and an Alpine and I have had a Chamelion and a Stiffee. I loved the Stiffee took it to the Alps and it was my all day every day bike. I would highly recommend it. The Chamelion is very similar IMO.
I currently ride a Bfe and really like it. I also loved the Alpine, it feels as though it has a slightly longer wheel base even though I was running a 150mm fork on it for everything. I run a 160mm fork on the Bfe for everything and I slightly prefer it over the Alpine because it feels a bit more lively.
All of this is totally subjective and I am sure others will feel differently. They are all lovely bikes and you will find something you enjoy about the ride from each of them.
I really fancy the Ti Alpine or the Ti Brodie because they look schweet!
Cheers

Sov looks very nice as does the Chumba. Saw a Trans Am at the weekend in Kwaka Green I was green with envy.
😀

craig, think i have asked you this before, but how tall are you?
and that bike is one of the nicest bikes i have ever seen.
I've got a blue pig and think it's great. Not ridden any of the others. I do have a hankering for the stanton slackline though
lovely looking sovereign. Very tempted by these but slightly put off by the price of the frame which was why i looked at the dialled alpine (similar looking frame). Is the sovereign steel or alluminium?
got an Alpine and love it. 2x9 with bash and ISCG guide, 140mm Revs on the front. Raced it at oktoberfest and done all-day XC rides on it. It's generally a grin inducing riot and a bike which makes me want to ride it when i see it, and ride like a kid when I'm on it.
Can't compare it with any of the others, but IMHO the Sov is overpriced compared to the competition.
I'm 6 feet tall and the frame is a large, 70mm 6deg stem and 750mm medium rise Renthals. I could go down to a medium for something to throw around but find the large a good all rounder.
Sovereigns are steel, original 853 and new Tange Prestige
Ok, I've had an original Sov', original Dialled Alpine & new Alpine, original Bfe, soul, a crush and a new Bfe.
Of the lot, the Crush was the best handling, looking and value bike. In fact, i'd say it was the best value bike I've ever owned.
Having said that, my opinion may be clouded by the value of the whole bike, I think the original Alpine & Bfe are potentially as good, with the original Bfe having the best build and finish quality. The new Bfe doesn't have the same quality feel as the original, but then again, its over £100 cheaper.
The Sov' was ok. But, its paint quality was absolutely dire - particularly when you look at the price; It basically fell off at the 1st sign of being used. Its bottom bracket was a tad high for my liking and I couldn't get hold of parts(rear chain tensioner & dropouts) for love, money or the offer of sexual favours.
The new Dialled Alpine was a very different bike to the original. My 1st was a 17/23" size and an absolute laugh a minute - it felt like a short travel full sus with great geometry. However, the new one was 18" (closest geometry match) and despite using the exact same build kit, the new one was awful. It bottom bracket was 2" higher than my original, and the figures Mike quotes on his website. It felt wrong - sorry but thats the only way I can explain it. I would avoid one of these.
Seriously, unless you have a great build kit you want to use, have a look at the Orange Crush. Its a fantastic bike.
Nice Sov!
I had one just before i got into selling bikes, loved it but couldn't really justify keeping it 🙁
I've owned quite a few hardcore hardtails including the alpine and now have a sov. I've also ridden the bfe.
'best' is a subjective thing, for me the best is the sovereign as it ticks all the boxes for the riding I do (xc, dh, bmx tracks, dj etc).
Depending on how tall you are the other frame I would recommend is the ns surge. I loved it to bits, but it was just too small for me.
The frames you have chosen are all a bit different so i'd have a look at what you are going to be riding first.
Bfe and the sovereign are more playful and IMO probably better frames, due to short chainstays and general brilliant angles.
I love my orange p7 more grins than my superlight mainly down to the head angle !
I'd say Cove stiffee. I had it with 140mm then 150mm. Even raced it with 100mm. 2009 model - ****ers nicked it 🙁
I currently run a BFe and a Soul and the BFe is quietly turning into my favourite ever bike. Stiff and burly enough for full-on Alps descents and yet comfy and good at the technical stuff too. Very impressed.
[coil uturn Lyriks, 60mm V1 stem, 711mm V1 bars, 1x9]
I've had an original sov, stiffee and bfe. Bfe can be pushed pretty hard and was a great to ride. But the evil sov was a real let down on anything remotely technical. Would buy another bfe again.
We have a couple of 16" Ti Holeshots that we are selling for £850. Nice they are too 🙂
