I think a fat bike hardtail could put in a winning time, total sh!tshow.
I got geo restricted but clicked on it further down and it worked.

Do the whole of the men’s field get a run or do they whittle down the numbers after qualifying?

It's not really qualifying it's just timed practice. Everyone who is entered gets a race run.

Because it's the world champs and countries have an entry they just send whoever is up for it. That's why there's riders from Israel and Namibia or Peru who look like they've never ridden a DH track before. I imagine the first portion of the mens race will look hopelessly out of their depth and then it'll speed up when we get to the WC regulars.

It really needs to rain and loosen up that gloop or it's going to be a circus.

This is becoming a bit of a joke tbh. Funny to watch but it won’t take much for someone to get seriously hurt and then it’ll no longer be funny.

Calm down, the risk factor is probably actually a bit lower, once you consider the speeds are way down on a dry course, and that even the pinners are just getting tipped off on slow nadgery roots not pinged off at warp speed...

It's just that the course and conditions didn't reward flat out attack... It's not 'worse' just 'different'...

Of course the Mens race could be completely different, I'm expecting more higher risk line choices (for example, Tahnee stuck that small drop to the right, which would have scored her a good few seconds without the later off, expect more men to do the same) and for male riders to carry more speed through the middle section, if a handful can clean the wooded, then their speed in the top section comes more into the equation...

Last world cup with conditions even remotely close to this was at Fort Bill (new woods section before the rocks were laid) and Minnaar rode it like it was almost dry, I’ll be surprised if he isn’t on the podium today

I made this very point yesterday whilst out on my regular Saturday morning tootle with a riding buddy.

I think Minnaar was the only one who made it through without stopping or crashing. On one hand an entire race being about one section is not ideal, but on the day it separated the best rider from the rest, so it did its job, I guess...

Starts in 5 minutes.

Cheers, fella.

These modern websites and feeds have loads of pizzazz, but I'd prefer a nice neat table in one place showing what is where and when!

Would it be so difficult just to have a table laid out by day, event by category by start time with a link next to each one....?

I took these photos October 18th 2017

It typically doesn’t snow until the end of November

Well that was carnage. I’m actually looking forward to how the top men will cope with this.
The French will do well I think, Minaar and Hart too but it seems such a lottery that bottom section.

Not really a typical year in general.

I just realised that the men started racing at 10 past. So by the time the coverage starts we'll have missed the worst of it. Of the first 50 riders only a few of them are world cup regulars.

RedBull haven't started coverage yet either, guessing a technical issue or they have had a storm roll in.

Edit: just kicked in now.

On iplayer use the search engine and type UCI, this will bring up the XC, click on that then at the bottom you have the choice of DH.

On RedBull just click through and it will start working, the Geo Restriction barrier appears regardless.

My comment above about no one getting seriously hurt didn't take into account the possibility of someone getting squirrely just before the big gap out of the woods.....🙅‍♂️🙅‍♂️

Looks just like 6 months of the year in our local woods in terms of the mud, just tilted by 45 degrees or so...

It is a good job Rojcek had mud on the seat of his trousers, it will have helped disguise the shit...

If the course continues to fall apart, Wilson's run might start to look VERY good.

I think it's a real shame. Wet and slippery is cool but deep mud just makes for meh viewing

It's not exactly fast though is it , even if bossed. Close racing is more exciting I think.

I was about to write that I thought the best riders would probably still be pretty close, and ride the mud like it wasn't there.... Then Gwin came down and was still sketchy. I reckon Reece Wilson could be in with a shout.

It takes all kinds. I don't think every world level DH race should be won by the 'stay in the middle of the bike and hammer everything' mob. It is good to have some races that can be won by what you might call a 'specialist'.
