Need a backpack for 68mile Adventure Cross race late July and looking at the DSL. Any thoughts?
Just planing on carrying hydration bladder, waterproof, bars, tools and first aid kit so assuming 15L will be plenty?

FWIW, 15l is quite a big pack for "just" hydration bladder, waterproof, bars, tools and first aid kit, and it doesn't seem to have any compression straps. I think I'd be tempted to go smaller.

I do have a 25l deuter backpack I use for commuting and its very well made and thought out
Very comfortable. I've used mine for hiking too on day trips.
Excuse my ignorance but not done any long events before. If i'm not 'racing' does it matter that the bag is slightly bigger than required and doesn't have compression straps? Are the straps supposed to hold it all snug for when i'm imitating a racer?! Or will it flap about like a very flappy thing?

I ride with a Deuter Race EXP. It's 15-18L. I use it for commuting, off road and general non-bike use. Great kit, fantastically comfortable as it is kept off the back. Forget the "roadie" pretension, it is just excellent. I would also say that 15L is a little large for a bladder, some tools and a jacket, but it disappears on the back.
Scratch that - read a few Q&A and turns out it does have compression straps....bonus!
