Off to my parents for the weekend in a coupe of weeks, got a 24 hour gap between arriving on Friday night and the missus following me on Saturday. So have some free time to get the bike out.
On the one hand I like singletrack, and haven't ridden Cannock since the new trail opened.
On the other hand I live in the woody singletrack nirvana that is the Surrey/Berkshire border but don't get the chance to ride any good BMX tracks week to week.
So which bike to take, the BMX or the singlespeed? Taking both bikes isn't really a logistical option.
Personally I reckon the monkey trail is much better than most of the stuff in Swinley etc
The great thing is you dont need to know your way either so if your on your own just keep cycling with out having to check maps etc.
Could be busy saturday morning mind get there early.
O your taking a singlespeed. Theres a couple of steep bits on the monkey trail I could nt ride on a singlespeed. But there are plenty of people who can so if your a good rider you should be able to ride it still.
I live a stones throw from the BMX track.
Go for the monkey trail option
Cannock is good for a blast, though I've not ridden the Monkey since it opened, but if you've got woodland riding near you at home and don't have any BMX tracks near you, I'd make the most of it and ride the Alvaston track.
Neither
Do the Ticknall ride that is on the trail guide section on here http://www.singletrackworld.com/trailguide/uk/east-midlands/east-midlands/
Its singlespeed'able easy
You could even do it as part of a big 70km loop from centre of Derby that goes past the BMX track (Sustrans route 54 out towards Burton then Trent and Mersey canal to Swarkestone, Ticknall ride, Sustrans route 6 back to Derby via Alvaston)
The BMX track will be packed full of little scotes on a Saturday, likewise Cannock just slightly bigger scrotes ๐
Alternatevely plenty riding to the north from Derby centre through Kedleston, Muggington to Chevin, Belper, Shining Cliffe, Drum Hill etc, (again all singlespeed compatible, with few testing 'slopes' on route)
I must admit I was pretty disappointed in the Derby bmx track- I'm no expert by a long way and have only been to crewe before but imo Crewe is much better and has a better vibe with less people going the wrong way on the track etc
Yea, my parents live in Calke so grew up riding bikes arround those routes, however in true magazine style they missed all the best bits :p
~Yea, but Crew is miles away.
