I'm sure I read somewhere (probably on here) that the m5100 11sp rear mech works with a 12sp Cassette/ Shifter. I seem to recall they're basically the same as a M6100?

Did I imagine that?

They both state 51t max low gear and 41t capacity (SGS cage).

If it does, will it cover a 9t high gear on a XD freehub? Or is that asking a bit much? Should I be looking at a SRAM mech? Will a SRAM mech work with an XT shifter? (12 speed m8100)

They work perfectly with Shimano 12 speed MTB shifters

I run two bikes with this set up, but with sram pg1230 11-50 cassettes.

I can confirm they work fine with 11-52 cassettes. Not sure about 10t or lower though? I havent tried it. Sorry.

Pretty sure I've seen YouTube vids saying it's same as 6100 just cheaper materials.

I ran one with a SLX cassette and shifter and it worked fine until it broke whilst a mate was riding it. He somehow managed to bend the mech cage and fully snap the top knuckle. I've replaced it with a 6100 one as the price was similar.

Yeah, they're pretty much identical to the M6100 mech.ย

I weighed my M5100 and M6100 and they were only a few grams different.

The mechs work with all level of shifters from deore all the way up to XTR.ย
