Anything decent at Delamere, and what sort of condition is it in? Alternatively any other recommendations for somewhere to ride not too far from the M56/M6 from there down towards Brum? Travelling back that way from Ellesmere Port on Sunday and looking to get a ride in before it goes dark.
You need someone with a bit of local knowledge to get the best out of Delamere (sorry I'm working!) The official fire road routes are naff, probably best doing llandegla only 30 mins away from Ellesmere Port
What Bigpole said - some good stuff but hard to find. Would expect it to be a bit of a mess ATM too. Why not nip to Llandegla ? Probs 40 mins from you
Delemere is full of people walking on Sundays. As others have said the best bits need to be shown to you by a regular or it just seems pretty boring. I would go to llandegla.
Thanks for the tips. Unfortunately Llandegla is 40 minutes the wrong way, would make me at least an hour later getting home to see the kids, so not an option. Will be late afternoon Sunday so hopefully most people will have gone home. Maybe I should just try and make it to Cannock if there's nothing else on the way?
Is Macclesfield too far out of the way?
Delamere is quite small, so just follow your nose and you'll be fine. There are virtually no dead end trails, so where you see a track just take it.
The forest is in 3 triangular sections, divided by roads, so each bit is a small section in its own right, and virtually impossible to lose yourself in.
It'll be muddy at the moment, but there's plenty to keep you occupied for a couple of hours.
Hope that helps.
Yep, that helps a lot, and what I was hoping to hear. Did a bit of a search after posting and all the advice seemed to be to just explore, which I'm quite happy doing anyway (for those who don't know I'll be on a unicycle, so whilst fireroads are still boring anything else is fine and it's not a problem going slow).
Macclesfield may be just about close enough on the way - probably not much further off than Cannock - though I presume you're suggesting Macc Forest which seems to be on the far side. Was hoping for something a bit less off route.
Delemere is pleasent enough if you just fancy a ride, if it's new to you there's plenty to explore and you can't really get lost. I think I have just got a bit bored of it as it's local. I was there the other day it's a bit muddy and that sandy stuff like to stick to your bike so I advise washing it off after, I don't know if this will matter as much on a unicycle.
Have a great ride ๐
