[Closed] Definition of a singletrack trail?

Right... what's your definition of singletrack if explaining it to novices? Does it include a set maximum width of trail? Is it a particular style of trail? Must it have trees and bushes either side, or could it be through short grass? Discuss!

I'd say singletrack = track not suitable for people to ride next to each other. Can be in woods, although i'd say worn away section in grass counts as long as its only wide enough for one(although its not quite the same)!

It's a track which can be ridden single file. Doesn't matter if it's forest, moor or vale. It's all good.

So what about all the tractor ruts on the South Downs. You can ride side by side but only in separate ruts. Can they be considered as a dual carriageways of mountain biking.
