Plan on riding for a day with my son(in the lakes) then pitching a small 2 man tent somewhere and riding the next day in one big loop back to the car.
Anyone done this?
Bear in mind i plan to carry all the stuff on me, tents, etc, so need to keep it light, or could just sleep under the stars (in the summer of course)

Yep, not a problem just need light camping gear bivi bag would be fine for one or two nights depending on weather but tent better for a proper nights sleep. I pack most of my gear into a camelback HAWG and strap bulky but light stuff like sleeping bag on to a rack. Some good advice on kit etc on the Polaris web site also on Planet Fears site.

How much can your son carry? It will be a lot easier with the stuff split 2 ways.
I did the ridgeway a few years ago, it's a great way to travel. Enjoy.
