I use crank bros candy on my road bike, v happy with them, was going to recommend them to my friend who has a shiny new boardman as his first ever road bike. But wondered if perhaps you lot might have soemthing to say on the matter? Virtual love and beers to all respondents..

for the price a good buy, get some cleats as well

I've always used shimano SPD's on all my bikes as they are cheap, work well and it means only one pair of shoes. Is there any real benefit to road specific pedals?
Cheap shimano spd's will last an age and coupled with a good stiff soled shoe they should do the job. Spd sl's are really good and IMO are the way to go.
Time RXS
SL's for the road every time for me, clip in easy and feel like you have more contact than an MTB spd
Shimano R540's come with cleats
the only thing about shimanos is no float? I like crank bros because of float.
Shimanos do have float, get the yellow cleats.
the Time's are good if you want float. I use the Atac ROC S on mtb's and cx and the RXS on road bike
Shimanos do have float, get the yellow cleats.
Ahh ok. This is good to know.
