Do you have a route? If you have it on Strava let's see it!

Been done and more. For instance the Dartmoor Classic, 104 miles and 3,400m (11,117 feet) climbing. That one sells out every year.

Fred Whitton Challenge, 112 miles and about 10,000ft of climbing.
Loads of Sportives are 100+ miles - the climbing varies wildly between them but 10,000ft isn't unrealistic. It's not exactly a new idea though...

What's your route or area (approximately)? And seeing as it's been done many times before, do you have some sort of unique selling point for your event?

Make sure it doesn't clash with anything else, notify the Police/landowners/Council as appropriate, get over to British Cycling's Sportive organiser pages, go from there.

What do you want to achieve? Sportives went through a period about 6-8 years ago where it seemed that every organiser was out to make their event the hardest possible, the most climbing, the longest. Once the organiser has been out at 9pm scraping up the last [s]victims[/s] exhausted riders, they soon wind their neck in and put on something more realistic for most peoples abilities, something that riders will actually enjoy and want to return to rather than something that breaks their will to live...

Have a look at the Bowland Badass if you want silly tough. 166 miles with 18,500ft climbing.

Depends where you're planning on having this event and who you're aiming it at? Approx numbers? You looking to make a massive profit or to put on something for the love of it?

The usual 35/70/100 mile Sportives are literally 10 a penny, you can't bloody move for Sportives now. Used to be about 30 in a year, now there's 30 every month. So new ones ideally have to have something different.

However the something different is not necessarily killing off half your entrants by making them do 12,000ft of climbing in 80 miles. If you do offer something like that then you have to be prepared for very low entrant numbers (like the Bowland Badass I linked to, that had 40 entrants at £10 each, hardly making the organiser a millionaire).

I don't really understand you. Sportives aren't hard for anyone who's into cycling. They're just bike rides. Why not just use the nicest roads available, rather than trying to do super route that might sound cool to you, but is just another bike ride for anyone who's into cycling

Day 3 of the Haute Route this year was 138km, 4700m of climbing. Three big mountains though.

That's to be on the Adventure Show sometime soon. Dougie Vipond rode it.

Aye - it's been rescheduled. I don't think there's a new date set yet.
