Made a stupid and hideously expensive mistake yesterday and left my Edge 800 with full OS mapping on a mountain 🙁

So I need to replace it as I've just moved to Scotland and want to be able to explore on the bike without getting the map out every five minutes.

I never really used the training features of the 800. I really just want to be able to plan a route on the PC, load it onto the GPS and follow it on a proper map. No breadcrumb trails! Speed, time etc are also important, but I don't need turn by turn routing or virtual partners etc. Running on AA batteries would be a bonus, but is not essential. It will be used as a hand held unit for walking with as well.

So what are my options? Another 800/810 or Etrex 20/30 or anything else and what about mapping? I really don't want to spend £150 on OS mapping although it was great. Is talkytoaster any good for the more remote parts of Scotland? Downloading it isn't an option as as I have no broadband and get 1gb of data per month, but I would buy one of the pre-loaded cards if it's any good?

Oh, and no phone based solutions please. Phone is my backup for multi day trips and stays switched off in my rucksack!

Sorry lots of questions...

Thanks

Genius!

However it's somewhere on a 15km route which is a 4 hour drive away.

Anyone else?
