My (now ageing) Patriot has Hope Moto V2s on it, and I really want the vented rotors. They are £90 each, and I'm sure they won't make much difference. But still.

Green finishing kit. It will make no difference at all to how it rides, and may in fact look naff.

Hope headset. Stuff much cheaper/just as good but I just like seeing Hope when I look down.

Same thing with my BB. No need to spend that much me thinks but I'll know it's there.

carbon handlebars.

it'll save a whopping 100g or so, but facts like that can't stop the want.

(see also: titanium pedal axles)

Carbon bars are more comfortable - there's a genuine benefit there in less arm pump and sore hands. Hard to say it's worth the money, but that plus the weight saving makes it more worthwhile than....titanium pedal axles, for example.

Carbon fibre bits for everything including big bike.

To be fair it would shave a couple of lbs off every bike, but the difference to my enjoyment riding them would be marginal at best.

I resist as I don't dare consider the total cost.

Really? I mean really?

Carbon Ti thru axles for me, they're green and pimpy, and lighter than mine, but are actually less user friendly.

Lighter tyres (Vertstar supergravity Hans Dampfs to Gatestar Nobby Nics), lighter forks (Lyrik coil DH to Fox Floats), Thomson Masterpiece (I have an Elite), tuned fox Kashima CTD shock and carbon bars. Will save approx 1.6lbs off total weight. In all reality tyres and forks will be changed to save over 1lb.

Things like ti bolts, carbon levers, carbon post, titanium pedal axles etc I will never have money for!

Saint everything for the DH bike. Don't need it at all. And a new damper for the fork.

Yeah my daft upgrade would probably be carbon wheels but the cost and the potential wrath of the Mrs stops me from getting them.

A belt-drive (got one on my SS)
In which case, a frame that can take a belt-drive.
Bigger wheel rims.
In which case a frame and forks and tyres that can take bigger wheel rims.
But then that makes it a new bike doesn't it? Happy to keep the same hub 🙂

I look at my plain gauge spokes and think...hmmm that's whats slowing me down. Now if I got the wheels re-built with fancy spokes, or even just bog-standard sapim race, then that would make all the difference.

Obviously it won't and that would be a ridiculous thing to change.

That was the minor gripe answer.
The other one is xtr everything!

Yeah - not in a "jump on the bike and notice it immediately" kind of way - more a "after four days of uplifts in Italy, my hands and arms are definitely not as sore as last time I did four days of uplifts in Italy, and I don't have blisters on my palms either" kind of way.

Whether that's worth an extra 50/60/60 quid or not is subjective, but there's definitely a little something there.

For me - currently thinking about putting Super Gravity Schwalbes on the DH bike. And setting them up tubeless - have just gone to a new wheelset that's a pound lighter than the old. Swapping the tyres would be close to another pound. And then tubeless - losing two DH tubes would save another pound. Three pounds of weight off the wheels.....MMMM.

Honourablegeorge, Ill be selling my Supergravity tubeless Schwalbe Hans Damprfs soon? Great tyre but too heavy for a bit of heavy XC.

Middleburn cranks for the SS , no real need just have always liked them and it's time!
+1 for the Brooks Cambium one of the best pointless upgrades I have made IMO.

How would carbon bars stop you getting blisters on your palms? Not buying that! As long as you do though.

I want some Hope Race Evo 2's to replace my XT brakes. The Hopes are massively expensive, completely not needed and probably not even as good as the Hope's but doesn't make me stop wanting them.

Kingdom Sparta ti riser bars.

"only" £150...

🙂

EDIT: which is half the price of the Thomson ti bar. Damn!

New hubs and wheels, for no other reason than mine are "a bit" lardy (819 on GI front and Hope rear) and "a bit " old. They are straight, not damaged, functional and new slightly lighter wheels would make sod all difference to my life

They're better than XTs. The feel is just ACE.

Price difference is insane though.

150mm Pikes for my Horsethief, I'm very happy with the way the current 140mm Rev's ride but that Pike Hype is working.

I'm also thinking of pimping my impending Rooster even though a practical build would be much more sensible.

Dmr vault superlights - I've already got 2 sets of standard vaults, no performance gain, 100g or so lighter, weaker ti axles and more fragile mag bodies, oh and they are £200!!! I've talked myself out of the idea a few times now as my standard vaults suit my needs far better and given that I've managed to bend a cro mo axle, ti isn't the best idea! Doesn't stop the wanting though.

A low-profile bell that sits in front of the bars with a longer pinger so you can flick it thumb-shifter style, which is compatible with all brake/shifter clamps.

I nearly bought carbon cranks for my hemlock the other week. It'd have saved about 150g I think, at a cost of only £300. Which is about 10 times more than the frame's worth.

I've come to the conclusion that my medium Soul frame is probably to small for me after riding my large full sus which has the same tt length as a large Soul. So a large Soul frame, probably in Orange as I regret not buying orange first time around!

Edit: which 'probably' isn't that daft!

For my road bike

3t carbon bar, stem and seatpost. I already have a carbon seatpost and stem but I want the 3t ones so they match my fork. But its a layout of around £600 but I would save 'a lot' of weight.

Some 38mm Chinese carbon wheels to replace my kyserium sl premiums because the carbon ones will look nicer.

That's pretty much it really. Well apart from the latest chinese light 🙂
