Thrown together a "Bitsa" from the spares box. I did intend on having a clear out but cant face Filthbay.
So now have a fairly light rigid 26er. Would most likely make a decent ride for taking the kids out after the recent retirement of a Cannondale Jekyl.
The question being: what chance of getting 1X9 working with no thick/thin, no clutch mech or chain guide? All I have is a unramped front ring and a Hope bash. Am I wasting my time? Should I either spend some money or fit a front mech and granny ring?
I've got about 3-4 front mechs if you want one mate.
zero unless you want to spend the whole time gently peddling on tarmac.
Dont you have an old front mech you can use? - all you need is a top guide
You could always screw in the travel adjuster screws on the rear mech and turn it into 1x7 or 1x6?
Cheers for the offer but I have a literal bag of front mechs from my rainy day clear out that never happened.
I think I might just buy a top guide if you think that is all I will require.
I was just wondering as a quick ride round the garden, including some steps and a few trialsy moves, resulted in chain staying intact.
I tried it without anything once and it was a nightmare - constantly falling off. Front mech / top guide solves everything.
