Need to squash the headset into my new frame.
Frame has a tapered head tube, zero stack 44mm in the top, standard external cup 1.5 in the bottom.
My forks are 1 1/8th straight steerer so going to use a Hope D cup in the bottom (reducer cup not a 1.5 cup with a reducer race).
Can I fit this with the standard cyclus press? I know it doesnt go up to a 1.5" cup, but I'm guessing that the seat for the bearing in the D cup will be the same size as a normal 1 1/8" cup?
Havent bought the press yet, want to figure out if its worth it or should just go to LBS holding frame and headset and shrug my shoulders.
Oh, and dont want to use a threaded bar thanks! ๐
Tomac supermatic?...what does that Hope lower race look like on the bike, looks minging in the pics...I've got a supermatic on the way and finding a suitable headset is confusing as hell...where did you get your HS from fella?
i've got that press, and have just used it on a hope pick'n'mix (2F) for my covert (tapered headtube).
I had the traditional 1.5" bottom cup (F) and a reducer race.... I was able to use the reducer race as a spacer on my headset press, so the bottom cup went on easily.
The top cup however was a nightmare - I had the integral top cup (2), which I thought would be easy, as it is 1 1/8", but it didn't set well at all on the headset press and kept going in at an angle. I got it on in the end with a bit of dutch courage, a rubber mallet and by tightening it until it straightened out once fully seated.
I wouldn't recommend it... see if you can find a headset press that is rated for bigger cups or give in and go to your lbs.

No, a Kona Dawg Supreme cheap from CRC. I just emailed Kona tech and asked what headset it needed as it didnt say on their website.
Headset is pick and mix from merlin.
I have a feeling i'll have a similar experience to alfabus if I try it so might just admit defeat and go to LBS. Always feel crap taking stuff bought online to LBS though. (and i'm sure someone will now say "so you should"!)
I fitted a 1.5 Hope reducer no bother with mine, but haven't done a taper. So personally I'd give it a crack and if it didn't work, use my more universally compatible headset tool (rubber mallet)

Yeah, see your thinking, but havent bought the press yet so may end up going straight to mallet if I'm too ashamed to take it to LBS.
Cheers guys...
