After a nasty 'off' yesterday evening, it looks like I've done some damage to my left ankle. Nothing broken despite the massive swelling, but sufficient damage to require treatment.

A&E have asked me to rest it for 24 hours to allow the swelling to subside before they consider putting it in plaster for 4-6 weeks.

I jokingly asked if they would cast in the top plate of a cleat into the sole of the cast, so that I could screw in the cleat from my shoe and continue riding. They asked if anyone has done this and are prepared to give it a go.

So then, anyone out there had a leg in a cast with integral bike pedal cleat? Did it work?

When I was finally allowed a weight bearing plaster after my ankle tendon op, I just swapped to flatties for a while...

Just ask them to put more thickness of plaster on the bottom of your foot, and screw the cleat in with some self tappers!

I have done it, with the self-tapper method above. It was pants.

Yes, I've ridden with my lower right leg in plaster...but not for a great distance...wasn't that comfy but was bearable to get me to the bacon roll shop and back in the mornings!!!

Many, many years ago, when we still used to ride with toeclips I was in a full leg plaster for a while after damaging knee ligaments...
I took the left pedal and crank off my bike, I would strap my crutches on my bike and used it to get around, never off road mind!
