[Closed] Cycle travel insurance OR just travel insurance?

Need to get insurance for a 30 day cycle touring trip to the US. Was thinking of specialist cycle insurance, but having read their terms and what lock you need for your bike (too heavy for bikepacking) I would not be covered for loss of the bike anyhow.

Just keen to understand options and what others have done.

Thanks

I work for a cycle insurer, so might be able to help. The wimpy cable locks aren’t worth having, which is why everyone asks for the heavy duty ones, but with us at least you’d only need to lock the bike if you were leaving it out unattended. If it was locked in your hotel room, or in a car, you wouldn’t need a bikelock. We’d also be covering you for crash damage which could be worthwhile if you are doing a lot of riding, and the bike while it’s in transit on the plane.
I won’t turn this into an ad, but am happy to answer question.

not seen many travel insurance policies that would cover any of my bikes as an item, covered on home insurance personally.
For the US I'd be mostly worried about making sure the medical bills are covered for cycling.

Bike cover on home insurance, but travel insurance I have would cover the medical side on the basis that touring is no problem. It just excludes "extreme terrain" (!) which is a very broad term ruling out everything other than tarmac I bet depending how they feel at the time.

US medical bills are high. 15 years ago, X-ray and a cast for a broken wrist was $1k. That was snowboarding (attempting to). My insurance paid up no problem, though you may have to pay some of it up front and claim back.
