One son moving away and as no longer a student he won't be covered by our contents insurance which had general and named bikes on including his. Suggesting he gets his own cover now as he does have a couple of expensive ones and pushing him to be more independent etc. I guess he could just get normal content cover quotes for his new place and include named bikes as we have but thought I'd just check here for recommendations for reasonable companies that might be worth checking out for quotes? Cheers

Just renewed with Pedal Cover for the 4th year. Never had to claim (touch wood) but price seems competitive for unspecified bikes.

I'm not a fan of pedalcover after the long delay and incorrect paperwork I had.

I'm m now with Aviva, who have covered all bikes and canoes, plus have away from home cover as a student...

Moving away into self-contained accommodation or moving away into a shared house? Second much harder to insure.

Just renewed with Pedalcover because I couldn't be bothered to shop around, but there was a substantial premium increase this year.

House insurance is not going to work if it’s a shared house - if he’s a proper tenant/homeowner that’s the best way.

If not, I had a really good look at this a few years ago when I was living out of a car, and bikmo offered the best cover but it’s substantially more than house insurance.

Hmmm, this sounds familiar. I gonna drop you a line if you don't mind Matt.

(Thread-crashing) - I'm looking to get personal contents insurance (rented flat, but only for myself and girlfriend), for bikes, laptops, phones etc.

Privilege/Churchill seem the best, and seems to have decent coverage (bikes don't have to be locked up in garden, can be left on street as long as locked up etc).

Any opinions of them as companies to deal with?

+1 for bikmo.

Never had an issue myself but I know a couple of people who have had to claim with them and they said they were excellent.

Maybe a little on the expensive side though but the adjustability of the cover on their Web site is ideal if you do a constant upgrade like me.
