Apologies in advance for Rapha / That London content...
A mate that lives near Ally Pally is trying to persuade me to do this:
http://www.rapha.cc/super-cross
I have:
a Cross bike (good)
bike handling skills (reasonable)
and 'fitness' (low to appalling - I'm under no illusions that I will be 'taking part' rather than 'competing')
I've also been missing a cruciate ligament for about 20 years - if the event proves to be a cross-country run carrying a bike it'll be no fun for me at all.
What does STW think?
Remind me why you want to do this? ๐
The phrase 'tequila shortcut' appealed ๐
OK, in that case, turn up with bike, etc but normal clothes, cruise round the first lap to the tequila shortcut, feign (or not) injury and stay there for the rest of the night ๐
Well having had a missing cruciate for the last 15yrs and having had no problems with it cycling (loads of racing) until I recently tore my cartilage playing football/running with my son. 6 months of hassle latter and now sitting here with a couple of scars from an op last friday. Do yourself a favour and give the CX a miss.
tonyg2003, yeah, that's exactly what I want to avoid.
clubber's suggestion has merit (and probably reflects the spirit of the enterprise amongst my group) but I'd prefer to actually do the thing if I go.
Anyone have any opinion of how much 'running' is usually involved in these things? I'm fine on the bike, definitely not fine running about.
It's not the running as such that is an issue. It's the running on off camber muddy ground (well not the moment at Ally Pally! but generally at CX) that put's me off CX.
Yup, that would be *bad*
im a cx novice but the races i've done down south had no running at all, well there was 1 very short steep climb of about 6 foot that you had to carry your bike up in 1 race, i also did one in ice and wiped out real good, wouldnt be good if you couldnt unclip..
cx safer than footy though...i've had a knee injury from footy and i've quit footy for good, not taking any more risks on my knees. i also think your more likly to crash in cx than mtb..
I had to give up cx for a while due to a " missing" cruciate. It was the hurdles that done for me. In the heat of battle I'd forget and land in something muddy or uneven bad leg first !!! que lots of hopping and grimacing and the knee would be swollen for a week.
GET THE OP DONE. Best thing I ever did ๐
