Hi All,
Due to several weeks of various hiccups, it took me til yesterday to finally get out in the wet and try my cut down army surplus shorts.
Overall impressions - excellent!
I wore my humvee lycra padded liners underneath and though it was only about 6C I didn't feel cold, surprising as I do feel the cold. Did run with my Buffalo on top though, and Gore windstopper gloves and took a while for the fingers to warm. This coldness was a bit of a shock!

My cut off shorts were cut off to the length of my Humvee 3/4's and added an inch, and my wife turned up the ends on the machine. I did think the cut ends seemed to flare out a little when on the bike, so was wondering about fastening them to reduce flap.

Has anyone done this?
Was thinking of either a simple draw cord through the turned ends, or possibly some velcro flap like on Humvees.
Thoughts?

....and discovered the delights of waterproof boots ( Spesh Deforsters ) as opposed to overshoes. No flappy bits and totally dry feet. Brill!
cheers

draw cord thru the hem would be easy enough; depending on the wife's skills, she could easily open the seam up the leg a bit and run them in so they are narrower to the cuff..

langy: yes was thinking that. A draw cord is the simplest.
Hadn't thought of opening up the seam ( p'raps I ought to ask her advice - duh!) My wife's an excellent seamstress so it's no problem for her to do, but that would then need seam tape to re-proof the seam....but I suppose on the end it wouldn't matter....
Was just curious as to what others did.

i just left mine cut though angle so that are slighly short behind the knee..

might stitch a vee into the sides to make them a bit narrower

apart from that they work great

Had mine sorted by a relative who knew what she was doing... Took a long vertical triangular cut on the outside of leg, removing about 1+1/2" at the bottom to nothing about a foot up, brought edges together to form a vertical hem inside the leg. Works a treat & you'd think they were bought that way.
