Im thinking of getting "er indoors" a brooks saddle for christmas, as she is building up a touring bike having suffered riding her XC bike on a tour of eastern europe earlier this year.
(light alu frame flexs with a lot of weight on it, and fat tyres dont help)

anyhoo, i was wondering what my options might be for customising said saddle before i gave it to her.
i was thinking of doing it myself, nothing to complicated, but dont want to ruin the leather.

cant imagine cutting the leather would do its longevity any good:

how about branding it?
ie: getting a soldering iron and etching her name, or initials, or similar into it.

any thoughts?

also, worth getting the brooks with the springs in the back for more comfort, or just stick with the plain railed one?

Hi Olly, stick with a plain railed one, I have a sprung on eon the pashley and they rattle and come loose over time. Team pro are nice, as are the B17 but not sure how they fit for women.
Branding could look good but you only get one go at it....

Bought my wife a countess, sprung saddle for our Leather anniversary. Then I rode it in for about 1000mi! Its never creaked. You are brave to brand it, practice first on an old shoe.
