Thinking of using my bars shifters set up of my cross bike for my new road frame .
Then converting cross bike to flat bars .Would Mountain bike brakes work on the cantilever brakes?
Thanks
jim
Tried this once and although I'm not a fan of long top-tubes it was virtually unrideable.
I was using mini v's and they worked just fine.
Dont think the MTB levers pull enough but shimano do a flat bar brake leaver for canti's, R550 I think it is and it's reasonably cheap.
I have got a flat bar Viner cyclocross bike that I use for touring but I use mini v's on it. Really comfy and long days are no probs with some Cane Creek ERGO control bar ends ๐

Thanks
Was building a 9 speed road bike to use up all my spare bits I had lying around and when fitted the 9 speed shifters the right hand one is I think knackered . The price of right hand shifter is looking pretty steep .As I have 10 speed on the cross bike and 2 sets of wheels wondered if I should Just change over my cross bike set up and fit the straight bars to it as a cheaper option as I no longer do any competitions on it .
would need a ten speed right hand shifter and brakes then .as I have bars .Have frogleg brakes on bike ...would these work ?
so might be cheaper option but would my .
Old style canti brake levers work ok, just not v-brake levers.
