Yesterday I was recce'ing some routes for www.hampshiretrailwatch.co.uk

The bridleway that runs South through Crooksbury Common to The Donkey pub proved to be most interesting due to the eyecatching residences.

Does anyone know the history of these? Why were they built? Are they actually privately owned?

Thank you so much. ๐Ÿ™‚

What sort of residences; I've ridden that way a fair bit but normally the other way and from the Donkey head north and then almost immediately east back towards Puttenham

Just checking the OS map - the bridleway that heads slightly SE towards The Donkey. It is marked as Charles Hill to the W of that bridleway.

There was the most amazing place - massive with lots of white, many paned windows. The shape was quite distinctive. Not sure whether it's lived in but didn't want to stop and gawp, or even take pics!

Does that help?

I know the ones I assume you mean, almost gingerbread house style, with terraced gardens. Have ridden past them loads of times and they always make me smile. But I don't know anything about them at all ๐Ÿ™

Yes! Different styles and just feel there must be some fascinating history involved.

Expect the unexpected when riding. 8)

But what about the Huf Haus further along the bridleway as you head from the Donkey towards Long Hill. Fantastic place!

The Ting Ting fan beat me to it.
There's some nice single track off that hill.

Oh, I didn't see that one but it would be on the same bridleway.

Actually, Huf Haus are becoming common. ๐Ÿ™„ I know of two in Hampshire!

Hi Nigel - it's Greg!

I don't think you can see it as well when you head along the bridleway towards the Donkey (I normally ride it the other way). There common as muck in Surrey, too! There's one in Esher of the same design and I walk past one every morning out with the dog, but this one is smaller and a different style.
