I'm looking to lose some weight from my current wheels and the crests seem to be the lightest about but wonder how strong they are.I've read the mtbr reveiws, and these are very mixed. I mostly ride traditional xc with nothing rocky locally but occasional trips to Brecon Beacons and Exmoor. If I get some I'd get them built by someone who knows what they're doing, probably JRA as I think a good build would keep them true for longer. So how have yours got on or are there any other lightweight options you'd recommend?

got a pair that haven't used a great deal, mostly racing on a hardtail. i have had to true the back one (no problem for me), front has been o.k. i think they are doing o.k. i've hammered at top speed through some rocky sections. if i was using them all the time i think heavier rims would suit me better.
i also have some 29er flows, they are far stronger and have stood up to some rough riding over a 2/3 years now.
i'm 12 stone, wheels built by jra.

not used crest rims, but have arch and flow 29er rims and both have been fine with my mighty weight

wheels - I have a pair of crest 29 rims that have almost 5000 pretty hard miles on them. Front one got bent in a very heavy crash in a rut that threw me 10 feet, but straightened out ok, the rear is a good as the day it went on. Built by JRA, who do a superb job. Can't recommend them enough, the new double socket profile is immense, really locks the tyres on.
so good i've just had another pair put on some old DT hubs.

They are great 18 months on my rigid bike and still as good as new.

Get them built up by a good wheel builder like Jon at Just Riding Along in Sheffield, he's done all my recent wheels

Good to hear good things about these rims
Any day now I should have a small shop full of big crest wheels.
The complete wheelsets weight in at around 1570g of nowt and are a few quid over £400. Tubeless ready.
I reckon these will be a great wheelset, certainly nabbing a set for myself.
