Is buying one of these like tearing up money- I need a new isis bb for the cross bike, crc has them for £15- is it a worthwhile risk? 😆

Or should I just junk the chain set (Bonty Race Lite) which also needs new rings, and move onto HTII?

I've had one on my Spider FRO for about 2 years now. It's been much more reliable than any other isis BB - which is amazing seeing as its a crank brothers product.

If they come with the lifetime warrantee on the bearings then buy two, that way you can keep the bike running whilst the other BB is being returned

Do crank Brothers make anything worth buying? I mean compared to say Shimano for reliability, not just because it's shiny.

Thanks.

I'm only interested in this cos the bb is dirt cheap for an isis one. I've got a Joplin and use CB pedals- neither are what you'd call fit and forget though.

Warranty is 5 years- that's quite a good idea to buy two of them.

At that price buy 2 you have spare when one of them is off warranty replacement.

That was a (semi!) serious question. In true STW style I've never used anything by CB, but I've read enough about them not to want to either.

I wish I'd thought of their business model. At least Superstar sells his cheap tat cheaply. Some of the prices of the CB tat is frightening!

WTF is that all about?! I'd want actual gold plate for that price.
It's shysters like them that ruin this industry in my opinion.

I think the writing is on the wall for ISIS. After my last ISIS BB died, I sold the crankset and switched to HTII.

Stiffer and lighter, and seems at least as reliable (been through some fairly grim conditions and still fine with an ordinary XT BB). And lots of different suppliers.

EDIT: by which I mean that a few years ago when looking for ISIS BBs there were loads of choices. Now it seems to be Superstar or CB.

Is the industry ruined then? Seems a bit of a dramatic conclusion.

I've been happy with the CB stuff I've used. Backup is great for when stuff does go wrong.

The only CB product I've ever bought that is reliable is the BB. Probably made by a decent company and rebranded. Mine is still going and it's one of the first.

Looks like a good deal to me.

Perhaps a bit dramatic, but I think as consumers, we've got used to components and accessories that just aren't up to scratch. There seems to be a mentality of "it's only a bicycle" and I don't think it's good enough. And don't get me started on the standard of work carried out in (some) LBS's!

Three of us bought CB Isis BB a couple of years ago when they were "cheap" at £30, 2 of them gave up the ghost within a few weeks, mine is still going strong. Go figure.
