This is a new one for me, was fettling the g/f's bike ahead of the GT7 tomorrow and found this on the end of the crank:

I'm not concerned about it failing (for the moment at least) just found it odd, especially when you consider that these cranks have a steel pedal insert and washers on the pedal spindle. I found a similar (but not so obvious) crack on the non-drive and then found the same (but smaller again) on the XT cranks on my bike.
Anyone else seen this before?
Yes, there was a thread about this some time ago on XT cranks and IIRC the outcome was its nothing to worry about as its something to do with how they are made, ie a tube forged into the crank shape.
My XT cranks have got similar markings but not quite as pronounced
I think he means the line in between the two grooves

thanks for that boggy, had completely missed this when they HTIIs first came out.
