My rear mech hanger snapped and appears to have cracked the chainstay too. Obviously the mech hanger has done its job but will the crack to the stay be a warranty matter ? The frame is 6 months old. Any helful answers are appreciated. Thanks.

You're right it hasn't done its job in protecting the frame in that respect but it snapped without a catastrophic frame failure,so could it be argued it has done it's job or should it be considered for a warranty replacement ?

What's the frame, have you got a picture of the damage?
1st call is to whoever you bought the bike from, once you have done that then you can speculate until they tell you. If I thought my frame was cracked I would be straight back to where I got it from.
Ok so apparently the damage isn't covered by the warranty because it was caused by the hanger ? Can somebody clarify for me what the mech hanger is meant to do, is it to protect the frame from damage ? If so then surely if the chainstay cracks after the mech hanger fails then it hasn't protected the frame and should be covered by warranty ?
