My airdrop edit has has quite a bit of scuffed paint. Top tube is fairly scuffed (guessing from shorts rubbing?) chain/seat stays have been bad too. Did you go full invisiframe or just the ams frameguard cotic sell with frames?
Be keen to keep this one a little nicer!
Full invisiframe. Two years on, a bit tatty in places but seems to have done its job.
Five years of the same invisiframe kit on my oldest bike, still looks ace. use it on all my mtbs.
I know it's not what you're asking but theres's a mint powder coating place that specialises in bike frames along the road from Airdrop HQ. Just in case you want to bring your frame back to factory condition before you wrap it.
The airdrop frame is going up for sale as I have bought a cotic! Live in Bristol too so Sheffield might be a bit far for powder coating! Thanks though
Reckon invisiframe it is then. I’m not precious generally about paint but would be nice not to have a Matt top tube on this bike when the rest is shiny!
I invisiframe my Rocket, I just didn’t see why on Earth you wouldn’t. It’ll only protect against scuffs and general abrasion kind of stuff but that is most of the paint work damage anyway and for that invisiframe is great and seems pretty durable. You could say it’s pricy but it a proper kit custom made for that frame and the pieces fit like a glove. You could save some cash as get a sheet and cut it out yourself, but it’ll be tatty look crap and why would you want your nice new and expensive frame to look crap?
When I bought my FlareMax, Lee (invisiframe) didn’t have a kit for it. So I sent him the frame and he made one and fitted it for me. Regardless of how good the tape is - and I think it’s very good - Lee is a top bloke.
However hard I try, no other bike looked as good as my Cotic. It’s definitely worth it on expensive frames.
I have invisiframed my own and a few others. Its great stuff.
Never bothered although I do stick bits of 'copter tape on bits that might get damaged (cable rub etc). Other than that it's a bike that's meant to be ridden and a few scars just add to the appeal as far as I'm concerned. I didn't buy it as an investment 🙂
I've done two Cotics in last couple of years with 3M tape/Invisiframe. First on an older Bfe and I went cheapskate and just bought the 3M stuff that is basically what Invisiframe is. I spent quite a while cutting bits out and fannying about for a saving over the Invisiframe kit of about £25. I got a Rocket last year and just bought the Invisiframe kit which probably tells its own story. It's pricey but sooooo nice how it all fits. If you're gonna spend that much on a frame another £75 to look after it seems to be ok. Tip - don't use much soap, it just puts more bubbles in you have to squeegee out.
Like I said my airdrop top tube is proper scratched up from rub, guessing caused by shorts. It’s gone a dull Matt so makes it look pretty rubbish.
Ordered the invisiframe, thanks for the tips. Used window cleaner before sticking big stickers on. Guessing it’s kind of the same as soap and water?
Probably helps to hold the Cotic frames together 😂
