Read on another post about 'dropping the inside elbow when corning'. Dropping like accelerating on a motorbike? or something else.

Cornering technique is a really big area for discussion and learning. Dropping your elbow doesn't figure anywhere in my sessions though. Obviously you want to push the inside grip down (lean the bike, plus keep it leant with some countersteer if you like) - but all the basic stuff is much more significant.

I think the idea is to drop your inside shoulder too, thus weighting the cornering edge of the tyres a bit more. A friend who was on the Dirtgirls week in Morzine a couple of years back was told by a very accomplished DH rider that the technique was "drop your shoulder and pretend to be a monkey".

Hmmm ... trying to fix my 'overshooting corners' problem. Just been reading the Brian Lopez book and it doesn't mention droping the elbow either.

Braking point, line choice and looking where you want to be going are the areas you want to get sorted before getting funky with your elbow. Good luck with it.

how about hips, does turning your hips to where you want to go help with cornering? Looking where I want to go has certainly helped, simple as it sounds. I still overshoot though.

Monkeyboy. Hips, shoulders and eyes pointed where he wants to go, Weight on the dropped outer pedal. Pressure on inner grip and pulling up on the outer grip.
