Bit of advice please when my cassette /chain next wears out.. I'm currently running a 9 speed mech on an 8 speed drive chain (sram x7)

Other than a 9 speed chain and cassette, and a 9 speed rear shifter, is there anything else to consider? I have a triple up front.

Hub is pro 2 evo 40t which I belive will accept a 9 speed cassette?

Thanks for any advice.

Wow, is it 1999 again?!

Chain rings will work marginally better if they're 9 speed (they probably are), but 8 speed ones will be perfectly good.

Otherwise you'll be fine.

might be 1999 njee20 -- my hardtail is still 8 speed :0)

about to convert the all purpose bike to 8 speed from 9 speed, too (purely on basis of having the kit.)

Cheers I've run both 8 and 9 speed chains before and the front rings didn't seem to have a problem with either.

I don't particularly need more range than 3x8 but figured 9 speed stuff might be better/lighter /more choice for the money?

Is that daft or is there sense in doing this? When my chain /cassette needs replacing I thought that for the extra cost of a 9 speed shifter, why not?

Cheers
