OK suppose you buy something from a well known internet retailer and it fails pretty quickly, within a month when you'd expect it to last about a year.
You'd have to agree that the part thats failed is a wear and tare item and you'd expect it to stop working at some point, but not this quickly.
Now it is possible to refurbish the part and probably make it better than new (significantly so).
So if I return the part and say for example the retailer claims I fitted the component with a rock and refuses a refund or repacement. Can I demand my original bits back? I'd quite like my money back and to go spend it elswhere on parts that last. But I'm not holding out much hope and in the long run I suspect that rebuilding it myself will cost about the same and be functionaly the same as geting a refund and paying more for one from a more reputable company.
You still own the bits, but you may have to pay postage.
If it fails within a month when its expected life would be a year or more then he has to show that it was not faulty or that it was fitted badly that led to its failure
And the retailer may end up destroying the Superstar ISIS bottom bracket in order to prove it wasn't faulty.
just polish the rock marks out before you send it in and you'll be fine.
I had some OE CB Acid's fail after only a month or so and sent them back to CRC - they (or 2Pure) send me a set of new, full retail boxed, pedals virtually by return. I think if you're polite honest about how you've used stuff most retailers are pretty good.
It was not [s]a superstar[/s] ISIS [s]bottom bracket[/s].
it would help to know what the item is. If you think it should last longer than it did then I would say thats a fair assumption to make given you bought it under that pretense. Send it back for them to decide as a month is not a long time at all and might even still be covered under the retailers own guarantee (these can be as short as a month or as long as a year).
+1it would help to know what the item is
god you guys are slow

Kick up a fuss, If its a certain online retailer with lots of stores you'll get something out of it. In most cases the regular staff with try and put you off but go straight to their customer services. I've known the green and yellow brands customer service to give vouchers to a customer who DIDN'T buy the BB that was faulty from them!
May take a few letters or calls but you've got rights. Take it to the top.
