Right - it's been over ten years since I last used SPDs but in that time I've got very fat and un fit.

To help with training I've decided to shove some back onto my hardtail to keep me disciplined. But it's been ages since I used any and I've no real idea what are good these days.

Don't want to spend a fortune and just want something reliable and adjustable (as in I can loosen them for a while whilst getting used to them).

Ta.

Any model?

Time Atac? were popular last time I used SPDs, never tried them myself, always used Shimano.

Shimano. The M520 are cheap enough and the bearings last forever.

Yep, some of the ATACs are adjustable. Bombproof too.

Don't understand how SPDs will keep you disciplined. For that I'd suggest a fixie

I'd go Shimano. They have a really nice clicky action so you can tell when you're in and about to come out. Set them loose and tighten as you get more used to them. As per the above, I've had a pair last over a decade with god knows how many miles. They are still on my commuting bike.

DrRS - I have some black M520 spds you can have. You can adjust them so you can clip out very easily.

Only used a couple of times but scratched from sitting at the bottom of the tool box. I now have xtr on my bikes...

£5 posted? no cleats.

Shim M520 or up for the money.

Time for float if you have dodgy knees 🙂

Avoid Crank Bros, they last about five minutes.

I've just switched back from EggBeaters to Shimano XTR after ten years or so - they're a lot better than they used to be. Highly recommended, and not hugely expensive.
