Is it possible? At the moment, this is the only thing I have to boot up my old laptop for, I know there is a USB adapter thingy, but will it work with no garmin software on there?

nope, no ANT+ transfer on the edge 500
had it had ANT+ transfer then you go via Wahoo Fitness App using the Fisica Key and then you can push to Garmin Connect/Strava
annoyingly for you the hardware to do this is in the 500, however its disabled by the firmware, maybe an update one day will turn it on, but not yet it seems

The 800 has ANT+ So, presumably, you can upload to Garmin Connect wirelessly using an iPad then. Can you also go the other way i.e. put a course from Garmin Connect onto the 800 via an iPad?

hopefully the upcoming replacement for the 800 will offer a user friendly solution!
