seen a great deal on a 52/38 crank 177.5 length.
currently ride a 50/34 / 172.5 length / 11-26 cassette.
I live in and ride around the Pennines, so plenty of hills & I'm a bit of a spinner when climbing.
would I die?
even with a 11-27 or 28 cassette?
I recently bought a Sora crank and because I dithered for so long, the 170's sold out, so I bought a 175.
I now get toe overlap on the front wheel....so perhaps check this before buying....
anyone else?
Won't die but probably a retrograde step.
177.5 is long (ish) how tall.
I've sold my compact, gone back to 53/39 & loving it.
12-27 cassette at the moment but soon to be swapped to 12-25. I live on the Shropshireid Wales border so hardly flat & no way I'd go back to compact.
177.5 does seem long though.
It's inevitable that one day, you will.
As for the affect of your planned crank changes, possible, but only if you include a 26er frame and 650b wheels in the mix. 😉
First time out in a year or so on my old road bike last night.
39-52 and 13-23 cassette.
Yes I nearly died. Even worse, I came very close to suffering the ultimate shame of walking up a hill!
I'm 5 10", yeah its the longest crank sram do. only 5mm longer than my current 172.5 and my MTB cranks are 175mm.
Ideally I'd like a compact sram red with 172.5 or 175 but they are all full price. this one I've seen though is £165! worth a punt?
...road bike Ian...thought you where MTB through & through? 😯
i wouldn't. I'm 5'11" and run 175 - which is borderline too long. I wouldn't go up another size.
You'll be kneeing yourself in the chin with 177's, or this being stw, your pot belly 😆
Im 6ft4 and ran 177 for a while on the singlespeed, great for hills but struggled to spin. Back to 175 now and better all round.
...road bike Ian...thought you where MTB through & through?
It's been about a year since it was last out.
Felt really alien not being able to sit and spin on the hills.
Was shamefully slow though. 15.5 miles and 1000ft climb took me a whole hour 🙁
More practice required methinks.
The crank is cheap because nobody wants to buy it..there'll be a reason behind that.
15.5 miles and 1000ft climb took me a whole hour
good going that Ian! especially if you aint been on it for a while!
