I've been tasked with finding the mrs a hybrid commuter bike. She likes the charge grater because of the disc brakes, flat bars, hybrid setup, mudguards and rear hub gears. she hasn't ridden one yet though. Need to find one near bristol...

Any other suggestions with a rear hub for comparison?

The female specific specs look cr8p in comparison to the male versions, so will probably go for a small male bike if it fits her.

I have the men's version and it's ideal around town.

Genesis Smithfield?

I've got a genesis day one with an alfine hub - basically the same bike but with drop handlebars. I like it because it's v v low maintenance and very reliable. Downsides would be cost and weight (although the latter doesn't bother me as I prefer the feeling of solidity)

I realise this is one of those annoying not-what-you-asked type posts, but IMO it's worth considering the Eastway bikes from Wiggle. I bought the 3.0 and it's been faultless over the last 1000 miles and not far off the pace of my road bike, and it's only 360 quid:

I've kitted mine out with 'guards, rack and dynamo lights for < 500 quid.
