Hi people

Going to start commuting the 9 (hilly) miles to work 3 times a week to help improve my mtb fitness.

I dont want to spend big money as it will literally only be used for this purpose.

Any recommendations? I see loads of cheap hybrid/commuters but have not a clue in this sphere of cycling.

Love the classic looking bikes but not sure if they would be ideal for a hilly, peddle heavy ride.

Thanks

second-hand road or hybrid or mtb as you fancy and some slicks. Just make sure you have room for mudguards if you buy a road bike

DO you need pannier mounts ?

Not really. Would probably wear a alpkit waterproof pack

Vitus Vee springs to mind, singlespeed though but low maintenance(£250ish). You can get geared ones for a bit more. I think they look pretty cool.

Ancient mountain bike, set of slicks, cheap durable drivetrain, sorted. Only downside is those retro-bikers have driven up prices of old bits 😆

I do have a scandal frame and lx crankset. Just not sure I could get rigid forks / wheels etc for my budget.
