[Closed] Coed-y-Brenin & Betws-y-Coed - 2005 5 Spot or 2009 Superlight

In the spirit of not being able to make the decision myself. I would like the collective to make the decision for me.

I am going to Coed-y-Brenin and Betws-y-Coed this weekend and can't work out which bike to take. The pace is likely to be glacial. Should I take:

1. 2009 SantaCruz Superlight with 100mm Rebas or

2. 2005 Turner 5 Spot with Dual Air Pikes

the decision is yours cos I can't make up my mind.

Thanks

SC

Give the Superlight to me. That way you will never be in a situation as horrible as this ever again.

if it was me it would be (2), but that's because I wouldn't have bought (1) in the first place, the fact that you have done indicates that you like that style of riding...

5 Spot. Then you can pootle up the climbs and hammer back down whooping like a loon and wait for your mates at the bottom.

Although you could do that on the SL too.

i would say that serious questions have to be asked about whether you need both those bikes if you are unable to make that decision yourself ๐Ÿ˜†

I have to admit I do occasionally ask myself why I have both. The Turner came first and is quite heavily built. I have started doing quite a lot of faster XC type riding over the last year or so and wanted a quicker bike, hence the SL.

I just can't bring myself to part with the Turner which is also a lot more suitable for the bigger stuff in Scotland etc.

Owning both is justifiable. Just!

on the basis that it's likely to be a slowish pace i'd take the turner as it will give you slightly more of a workout without having to go fast and it will be better suited to liven up the riding with jumps and the busting out of moves.

Both will manage perfectly fine.

I reckon both would be absolutely fine, although I suspect that for the same rider, the SL would be faster up and the Spot faster down... so it really depends which you would prefer...

I'd be taking the 5 Spot though...

SL I reckon, lot of looong fire road climbs on the Marin might as well make it easier for you and it's more than enough for the descents

CYB a bit more technical on the descents mind, depends which routes you will be doing?
