I'm curious about it as it doesn't seem to go away so must have a following. Who uses it and what benefits do you get from it? Or is it just a retro classic thing?

I use Specialized Roubaix. Its akin to suede, its probably a synthetic material but its great in the wet, (I dont use mitts) unlike Fizik which is deadly.

Cloth type tape ftw. ๐Ÿ™‚

It's a retro thing mainly.

the harlequin wrap with contrasting cloth tapes is just lovely.google wasted life harlequin for instructions.
takes a bit to do.takes ages to do it perfectly.
on the right bike it looks really really good.
but it's got no cush at all-might want to put something underneath it.
grippy though.esp if you shellac it.lasts ages that way.

I remember that stuff from my youth.Definitely a retro thing.Goes soggy when wet,dye tranfers on to hands and looks worn in no time.
Big fan of Fizik microtex.
