As per title, would you risk it?

Found a box of 'em in the garage, must be 15 packs in there. Used half a packet whilst on the smart trainer on Saturday (over 2 hrs and over 2,600 ft simulated climbing). Was feeling good for first hour, but had the worst stomach cramps for the last 30 mins! Drank a 600ml bottle with electrolite mix. Do you reckon it was down to the out of date Clif Blocks?!

I'd still eat them but then I'm just too tight to throw them out.

Yes unless I was certain they were causing problems. It's best before, not use by, so should be no risk just a loss of texture/taste perhaps.

I’ve eaten clif bars that were more out of date than that and had no ill effects, if that helps?

Had I known just how far past the BBE date they were, I may have reconsidered but ignorance is tasty, tasty bliss 😊

There was a PSA on here for a box costing £5 because they were near the end of their shelf life.

I bought 5, still have 2 boxes left that are well out of date but working well.

It's just chunky jam, lasts forever.

Read the ingredients label. There's not a great deal of food in them, so it seems unlikely anything would go wrong with them.

I did similar with some 12m+ old SIS bars. They'd been in a fridge the whole time too, so I guessed they'd be OK.
Nope.
Stomach cramps with serious gurgling and detonations for a day after.

BBE =/= Use by

I think I'm still using some around that date. As long as the pack isn't open it'll be fine. And if the pack is open then they tend to go firm, then chewy, then brick hard.

Gelatinous Cubes are pretty much only dangerous if they're bigger than you.

Yep, I would and I do, still got a few left in the cupboard from the same PSA. Not shit my pants yet....at least, not because of the chews.

Funnily enough I found a 6 month out of date Clif Bar in my cupboard yesterday and took it to work. Tasted fine, maybe slightly less "fresh" but not inedible by any means. Any food with a Best Before date rather than Use By date will be ok providing the package hasn't been damaged.

So consensus looks to be that they should ge OK. They're still sealed, still squidgy and tasted fine!

Might be that I simply "overtrained" or just got dehydrated then. I did notice the instructions said to make sure you take them with water, so maybe I just didn't drink enough to manage my exertions. Fairly new to indoor training and I found that session to be a hard one due to the amount of climbing.

Mine also came from the same PSA that Saccades mentioned above, so as I also hate throwing stuff away, will try them again on a lighter training ride

I have some chilli oil dated 2009, last third of the bottle found recently.
Anyone still using anything older than that?

Stomach cramps with serious gurgling and detonations for a day after.

This is normal for some people and some SIS products even when they are in date, me included!

The caffeine ones have a hefty amount of caffeine and can get me to race weight pretty quickly if I haven't already.

Yep - had an in-date SIS gel too many over the summer and had to make like a bear in the woods

And using some of their electrolyte tabs that are from 2018

I'd prob try one, at home, where toilet access is available - not out on the trail 10miles from anywhere.
