I liked the back of the hand across the forehead afterwards 'Phew'.
I'd be really upset if I were the driver, though, probably didn't know if he'd hit them or not until after the train had stopped and they'd gone back.

The train driver was clearly at fault by driving beyond his abilities as he should have been able to stop in the distance he could see was clear.
