I'll be trying to set my wheels up tubeless today. They've currently got Velox fabric rim tape in place and the rims will probably need a clean prior to applying the rimless tape. It's recommended to use a solvent that evaporates but I don't have access to Isopropyl alcohol and was wondering whether a spot of disc brake cleaner (which obviously doesn't leave a residue) on a rag would be suitable.

Used brake cleaner last time as that was what was in the cupboard

For me, just wipe down, then a layer of electrical tape over spoke holes as it's really easy to get tight and sits really well. Then a layer of whatever your preferred tubeless tape is.

disc brake cleaner will be fine

warm the rim to get a really good contact with the tape

I just use Mr muscle cleaner. I also find leaving rims in living room night before so they are warm and moisture free helps. I keep a hair dryer on hand to gently warm the area as taping not hot just warm.

I always use brake disc cleaner. Perfect for the job!

Bringing everything indoors and using hairdryer helps loads - warm adhesive is stickier.

Isopropyl alcohol. Although I have had to use GT85 before to get the gorilla tape residue off first.

Following some great comments on here, I now always put a layer of insulation tape on first, then the gorilla tape. Makes it much easier to remove in future.

Also, as per the Stans video, don't tension the rim tape on the first and last 10-15cm stretch, as this means it sticks better.

I also go a little belt n braces and fit the tyre with a tube overnight and leave somewhere warm to make sure the tape really sticks. Edit - I have an old tyre with a very slack bead I use for this, just so I minimise the risk of scuffing the tap up when fitting the tyre

Blimey that's a lot of messing around , I just bung a bit of Stans tape on , put the valve , tyre and sealant on and inflate , takes about 10 mins max .
