I've always cleaned fork internals by draining out the oil etc then simply wiping the internals clean before reassembling.

I'm sure I have seen people soaking the internals but I can't find what in.

In this instance the forks are some old bombers so no delicate seals to worry about!

Any suggestions?

I believe jonk is correct.

Rockshox recommend using isopropyl alcohol (IPA) to clean internals.

IPA or petrol always do a good job.

brake cleaner is often just isopropyl. (people say it contains oil; I've never found a quality brake cleaner that does)

But IPA is cheaper.

Where do folk buy their IPA from?

Local (motor) bike shop didn't have any, local bike shop doesn't.

TBF as long as you clean all the gunky sludge out there's no need for anything else with an open bath fork like bommerz.

Got mine from local pharmacy, just a couple of quid for a small bottle. I decant it into an empty spray bottle I got from boots and bobs yer uncle, a few squirts into the stanction and a wipe down and of ye go.

Why in the name of god would anyone think that something you use to clean brakes would contain OIL?

Seriously?

Anyone who sold oil containing brake cleaner would be hung drawn and quartered. There is no way that any brake cleaner could legally contain any lubricant, ever.

brake cleaner is often just isopropyl.

Which brake cleaner is that?
