I gave it a good clean yesterday with some car soap. I guess it has some kind of wax in it as my brakes are rubbish now. Cleaned the rotors with rubbing alcohol but the braking is still pretty crap. Any suggestions to sort em out, preferably free?

Put dirt on them with gloves on. Go and thrash them.

Take the pads out and give them a quick rub with some fine sand paper to get rid of the film. Jobs a good un 😉

Just go for a ride, easier and more fun.

Cheaper car shampoo has less wax in it.

Try the abrasive method first. If that doesn't work, buy some disc brake cleaner and apply it to both discs AND pads.

I've used Turtle Wax car shampoo on all my bikes for years and never had a problem.

I think washing up liquid has salt in it - not good for components or frames. I know its not recommended for car cleaning.

I always use car soap and it never cause an issue with the brakes......I suppose it depends what brand of shampoo!
