Ive got two bikes both full suss and after building my missus a bike would like to take the little one out, i asked in a bike shop and they said you cant attach anything to a full suss
So is this right?
Bikes in question are a Blur LT 140mm and an old Giant reign thats quite heavy That I use for wet weather / more daring stuff plus its only 1x9
So if possible it would be on the blur .
Anyone do this?

Probably not a good idea, unless you enjoy pulling out and replacing pivot and linkage bearings. Cargo or child trailers place a lot of side load on linkages in a way that they were never designed for; I'd suggest only towing with something rigid at the back end. I use a steel hardtail for trailer towing expeditions.

I stuck our child seat on a hardtail assuming that the extra weight off the back would do weird things to the suspension. A trailer on the Anthem made it bob somewhat due to the drag of the thing causing the suspension to activate slightly however when locked out it was not unbearable.

I had a seat on my full suss (giant trance). it had a single bracket that fit to the saddle post. It was a similar fixing to this one. I used it for about a year

My little one now weighs 15kg and the seat had started to strain a bit under this weight. we bent it going over some ramps at the park the other day so I have had to get a new one.
The new one fixes down to the seat stays which is no good for the full suss and I cant get it to fit my cove stiffee either. It has fit on the wifes bike so ill have to take her out on that instead.

I tow a chariot trailer with my Blur 4x, not had any problems with it yet.

i used a trailgator on my cube single pivot loads of times - just pumped up the shock a bit to restrict movement - afterall its not like you will be doing 6ft drop offs so its hardly going to move

Agree with this.

I towed my little'uns to school and nursery, daily, in a Burley Trailer on an Intense 5.5. It was fine

Just make sure you get one that connects to accommodate the disc brakes etc. The Burley connected via a custom rear wheel skewer

Took the kids round Cannock on trailers on the back of my old Giant Reign. It bobs and pulls you about a bit but its fine.

I had a trailer that attached to the dropout of my Enduro and it was fine for towing two kids. Now there is a seat on my wifes bike and a tag-a-long on my BFe. The seat wouldn't fit on my FS due to the frame design and I don't think its wise to try the tag-a-long on it. It would probably be fine but the bobbing of the seat post (where it attaches) would cause extra stress. I didn't have the HT when they were in the trailer so I had no choice but to use an FS.

Used a WeeRide on my Gary Fisher Cake with no problems as it sits along the top tube and does not effect the rear suspension.

I tow a Adventure AT3 trailer on my Kona Dawg, admittedly only the once so far but I didn't fall into a pit of doom!

The trailer attaches via a bracket that I slot between my 10 thro axle and the dropout.

I've towed my AT3 with my ancient Superlight with no issues though to be honest I hadn't really thought about the stress on the shock.

I think if you're pulling light loads along a road it's probably negligible but add in off road, higher speed causing the trailer to buck a bit.. hmm, I doubt it'd be warrantied, put it that way. I usually use the rigid bike anyway as if we've got the trailer it's likely to be left places I wouldn't want to leave a pricy looking bike (the rigid is probably worth as much, but looks like a supermarket special).

Burly Bee on an Orange Five (9mm dropouts). Pretty sure the trailer gently tugging on it is no worse than some of the awful, awkward sideways landings I sometimes subject it to ๐Ÿ˜ณ

Tried a croozer (double) on my yeti asr. It did funny things to the suspension compression/rebound and felt lile it was twisting much more than on a hardtail. Much better to have a rigid back end IMHO

I think that I might have to buy a 29er hardtail just for taking the little one out ๐Ÿ˜›
Might try the weeride as its not interfering with anything first just need to make sure there is enough space under the stem

Wee ride child seat doesn't affect susprnsion. means the nipper gets a smooth er ride when you go razzing around the woods! Trailers look like a pain.

The wee ride fits around the head tube. If you have a normal headset and a normal stem then no prob. Might be a problem on low stack integrated headset frames. They are great bits of kit.

Trailer okay, adjusted the rear suspension to less bouncy and it was fine. As with others, just need to make sure the fixing method / placing works for what you've got.

Seat-wise, probably a non-starter for any sort of rear seat.

Had a WeeRide on every full sus I've owned, plus used a Trailgator on my Prophet & Blood.

One Weeride and one LOCT here. Both have gone onto my Five and later my Alpine 160. The LOCT was too big for my wife's Five Diva, but the Weeride was fine.

Took our elder boy out in Les Gets with a LOCT on my Five - not a problem and lots of grins and thumbs up from liftees. Plus women in their late twenties in MTB kit gravitate towards you to chat - completely innocent of course (my wife and I were riding together) but I can pretend it was me and not just that they saw something that would allow them to keep riding should they ever start a family.

Good luck finding a LOCT of course.
