Cheap, serviceable wireless dropper - Seekrun S7

[#13535453]

Came across THIS on PB.

Available from Canada for around £220 inc VAT & Duty (if my Google-ing & maths is correct).

You can get all replacement parts and service kits from them too - cartridges, motor, circuit board and every other component - all look reasonably priced too.

Looking at the website all the servicing and parts replacement looks pretty straightforward.

It's obviously Chinese and is also available through AliExpress.

But it's less than half the price of an AXS and 3/4 of the price of the Fox Factory Neo dropper.

I could be tempted for my hard tail build ......

Aliexpress has them at much cheapness.

I was looking at these the other day on aliexpress. They were £164.

So not much more than a brandx dropper

I'm definitely interested in the upcoming 200mm version.

I'd take the extra weight with it being user serviceable.

Remote clamp appear to be matchmaker compatible too - so plenty of options for mounting.

Reading the thread on Pinkbike it also appears to be a fair bit longer overall than say the One Up posts for a given drop length.

Reading the thread on Pinkbike it also appears to be a fair bit longer overall than say the One Up posts for a given drop length.

One ups are shorter than average - in either, or possibly both, collar to rail for a given length, or collar to base for given length

Electronic posts are always going to suffer in collar to rail dimension as the battery needs to mount somewhere and subsequently it makes sense for all the electornic hamsters to be in that area too.

How does this compare height wise to the RS and Fox offerings?

Hopefully I've got this right.

Older Reverb AXS Total length @170mm = 480mm

Newer Style AXS @ 175mm = 487.2mm but the collar bit is 35mm.

737g with battery

Seekrun 7 @ 175mm = 514mm.

845g with battery

So ok if you have a straight seat tube.

Still worth a punt for my HT build though.

There's a even cheaper "racework" one at about £120 depending on which discount code on Aliexpress. It seems to be a generic one that's also branded as Meroca / GTMRK etc. Seems to be a small amount of positive views on Chinertown as well.

So took a punt and ordered the 175mm one. Purely because my bike has the very annoying through headset cable routing that I don't want to use and there's enough room for an extra 25mm drop. It also claims to be a bit lighter than the Seekrun one.

As it's under £135, VAT and import is included as well. Will let you know how it is when it turns up and if there's any interest.

Kind of interested for my ebike too, that headset cable routing is a pain. Let us know how it goes!

Love the branding....

Well, it has turned up and had my first outing on Friday.

1st issue is the stack for the saddle is high due to where the battery / electronics is. It's roughly 15mm more than the Limotech dropper post that I had. So it had to be fully slammed down but still ended up 2mm higher than my old post at full extension. Not something I can notice but it was very close to it not working for me.

2nd issue is a big one which is the wireless connection. It's completely stupid that the remote forgets the seatpost every time you take the seat post battery out to charge. To pair, the method is to wake up the post using the actuate button on the post side, then keep pressing the actuate button on the remote for up to 1 minute before they pair. It took 10 or so presses before they pair. I can imagine if more than 1 of us have the same post in a group ride, that would cause absolute chaos. Also unsure what would happen if you have more than 1 of these posts / remotes in range, I can't test that obviously.

3rd issue is more with my frame, whoever built my bike decided to use the space between the bottom of the seatpost and the motor as a space to hide cables, in a proper rats nest fashion, so I had to drop the motor, tidy it all up and find a new space to hide them before I can put the seat post in the right position. The advantage of it fully slammed is the "race work" logo is not visible, it's even in the same place as a Reverb.

Other than that, it works great. It sounds a bit agricultural but it reacts to the button press instantly and the post comes up at a fast speed, just like a freshly serviced Reverb except there is no lever throw before the post activates which to me is the biggest improvement in use. It also surprised me how much extra 25mm of drop helped.

Weight wise measuring full system weights (i.e including cable / remote), the post is 771.5g vs 768g declared. Compared to my 150mm Reverb at 620.4g and Limotec 656.1g, I think roughly 150g for extra 25mm travel and electronic activation is pretty good.

My only other worry is potential water ingress, the seals look OK but only time will tell.

Some pictures / video for your amusement:

I got one of the these, crank brothers highline stuck. Bought the wrong size cartridge then crushed the outer cable. Annoyed i bought this from Ali express for £137.65 and £26.16 pending in topcashback.

Took a few days longer at customs than another aliexpress order and had £137 and bike parts on the box but no additional charges.

i have not had any issues after charging the battery. Build quality seems good, it’s a bit binary like an old gravity dropper. Up and down like a rocket. Will it last? Probably not but I would have rather bought this for the wife/sons cube reaction with the external cable routing.

But i do not like the position of the button, need to find an alternate clamp if possible.
