Cheap Full Face Helmets?

I’m in the market for my first full face helmet. It’s unlikely to be used regularly, only when I’m doing stuff that is a bit above my usual riding.

Tredz have two helmets on sale currently, the Leatt Gravity one at £90, and the 7protection M1 at £65. Both look suitable for my purposes, but I’d like any other opinions about those two and any others at a meagre price.

Thanks.

Depends which fits your head best.

I've got the IDP/7protection M1 for similar low-frequency use and it works for me - very good fit all round, comfy, no idea how protective it is (not tested!). Same/similar design to the old 661 Comp FFer I had for years before.

Eeb or meatbike? The Leatt doesn't have much in the way of vents so will probably run hot.

The M1 looks more gnar-bro if that's important to you.

Yes, I still pedal, and do sweat profusely, so venting could be an issue, however, on my local trail centre, I generally take the helmet off for the climbs when its warm, so not so much of an issue. I’m going to the FF as I had a fast tumble at Nevis Range, and it shook me up a bit. My (std. style) helmet was smashed, glasses broke etc, luckily I didnt have any face injuries, but afterwards I knew how lucky I was, hence the requirement for the FF helmet.

Have you considered something like a Fox Dropframe/Pro?

More spendy, but can be used for actual bike riding too and gives a lot more protection than a traditional helmet. I'm no expert but I'd guess that head impacts outside the realms of a normal helmets protection generally happen more to the side of the head than your chin?

I couldn't imagine wearing the two posted for anything other than gravity only riding. Sweaty so and so here too

Fox Proframe is the helmet for me at bike parks etc.

I've always had reasonable quality helmets, but after a fairly bad head injury wearing a Fox Flux (side of head impact) I don't scrimp on helmets.

Older Speedframe Pro - gravel bike, relegated from light MTB

New Speedframe RS for MTB rides when I know I'm not going to be pushing it too hard, or hot summer rides

Dropframe Pro (older style) for the majority of riding when I know I might be on the edge - out on a ride with the lads egging each other on, or somewhere a bit gnarly on my own

Proframe RS for the big ticket riding

Have an old Bell Super DH convertible too for when I'm not sure 🤣

Compared to the cost of the bikes I ride in situations that could quite easily lead to falling at speed, spending a few £££ on equipment to protect arguably the most important part of my anatomy is a no brainer for me.

Obviously I could at some point be wearing the wrong helmet for the wrong occasion, but....

Anyway, over to TJ

Looks to be some good deals on sport pursuit as well. But yeah convertible helmets could be a good option or proper well vented enduro ones.

I have a TLD stage which is way more vented than my older 661 evo.

Some good deals to be had on Sports Pursuit as well. Some POC, Endura, Leatt lids to name but a few.

Edit: @ads678 got there before me.

I’ve got the Leatt One, it’s comfy, <£100 and not too hot for a DH helmet. It also looks ok as well.

I wouldn’t wear it on a pedaly ride, it’s definitely a DH helmet. I wore it every day in Morzine except for one day when we used the e-bikes to do some lift assisted Alpine XC and we just wore our regular helmets as the was a lot of pedalling up and over a mountain.

Don't think you said how big your noggin is, but this is an excellent helmet if L/XL would suit...

I also bought the 7 protection one as a lot of the other bargains were only available at the very large and very small ends of the scale. It's not got any swappable pads and is a little tight around the jawline for me is the only criticism.

If you're near a size boundary, go up. My first one was too snug, had to change for one bigger.

If the size was right - this is cheap - https://winstanleysbikes.co.uk/kali-ltd-invader-2-0-helmet?gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=1055895549&gbraid=0AAAAAD_ilfLJB5Hr36mwgvygKagXtEEjb&gclid=CjwKCAiA2svIBhB-EiwARWDPjtjOor-rY-j__L5AcT5CiflJ1jCzk0_FJBjX-giIp5Awpm****5Cq1BoCihIQAvD_BwE#172=2687&387=24053

I can definitely recommend the Kali Invader 2.0, light, very well vented & comes with 3 sets of cheek pads and also has an adjuster dial to get the fit 'just so' 👍

Kali also do a DH certified version if you need better protection
